Walking the Camino de Santiago Trail in Spain TJ Plastow and her daughter, Rian, will recount walking the Camino de Santiago for 44 days and 520 miles at the regular meeting of the Rotary Club of East Jefferson County on Thursday, January 9th, 2020. The Club meets at the Old Alcohol Plant Restaurant, 310 Hadlock Bay Road, Port Hadlock WA at noon. Guests are welcomed. The Camino de Santiago is one of the world’s great walks. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Camino is a network of pilgrims' ways leading to the shrine of the apostle Saint James the Great in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain. Many follow its routes as a form of spiritual path or retreat for their spiritual growth. It is also popular with hiking and cycling enthusiasts and organized tour groups. Rotary Club member T.J. Plastow, and her daughter, Rian, spent a year studying the trail, and then walked 520 miles on foot over a period of 44 days in the late summer and early autumn of 2019. T.J. and Rian will address their preparations, getting there, the trail, the food, where they stayed, and the people they met along the way. An optional cafeteria-style lunch (soup, salad and sandwich $15) is available beginning at 11:30am. The meeting begins at noon and wraps up promptly at 1pm.
