About
Why Use Acupuncture?
It is commonly understood that acupuncturists treat “pain,” often musculoskeletal in nature. This is very true, as acupuncture “analgesia” has been studied in the lab to be antagonized by naloxone, an opiate antagonist. This means that your body is naturally producing opiates, which can be activated through acupuncture treatments. This has incredible implications for its ability to fight addiction, depression, relieve stress among many other things. Acupuncture, as well as helping to relieve pain, can help improve digestion, circulation, open blockages, and transform fluids in the body.
You may be surprised that acupuncture can treat different parts of the body, without putting needles in those places directly. Acupuncture uses various microsystems which contain a view of the major organs and systems. The ear is one microsystem while the hands and feet are another. The ear looks just like an upside-down fetus. At an early stage of development, the materials that make up our kidneys and ears were not separated. This is why ear points can help adrenal function, and kidney depletion can contribute to hearing loss. Our bodies originally differentiated from one single cell. This can be extremely helpful for treating pain and inflammation. The more we rely on feedback from the body, the more effective this type of treatment can be.

Acupuncture is a method of engaging “Qi” or energy through the insertion of thin needles. This helps to resolve blockages in circulation that lead to pain and stagnation.Moxibustion, or “moxa” involves the burning of prepared Mugwort to warm specific points, strengthen the body, and warm the digestive “fire.”
This involves suction of heated glass jars which can be used to resolve stagnation in the channels, release toxins, and resolve pain
Ancient Chinese formulas may be used to help resolve pathogenic influences in your body such as cold, damp, wind, heat, and stasis.
After your session, you may be tired. An acupuncture session may activate healing pathways, stimulate the immune system, and bring the body into a parasympathetic response (rest and digest). At this time you may become more connected to your yin nature; the darker side of the coin, representing night time, rest, darkness, renewal and water. Yang is the energy that is most abundant in children, associated with brightness, day, energy, strength, and vitality. It is a great idea to get some extra sleep and wake up feeling rejuvenated. -
