Join the City of Port Townsend, Chamber of Jefferson County, Climate Action Committee, and OlyCAP for a ribbon cutting event to celebrate the launch of Port Townsend's new EV Car Share program! The vehicles and carshare membership program are brought to us by a partnership with nonprofit consumer cooperative ZEV Co-op.
ZEV Co-op is a tech-enabled car rental enterprise (AKA "carsharing") offering electric zero-emission vehicles with a focus on residents of underserved, low-income, and rural communities. ZEV Co-op offers insurance and roadside assistance, with favorable membership terms and affordable rates. Member-owned and democratically controlled, ZEV Co-op aspires to make zero-emission vehicles easily available to all Washingtonians, regardless of income or place of residence.
The City, Chamber, and OlyCAP partnered with ZEV Co-op to successfully apply for funding from WSDOT for a low-income EV carshare program through the WSDOT ZAP grant. The partnerships came out of the CAC EV Work Group, which was established to help speed the transition to EVs in Jefferson County as one way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This specific program was especially desirable because of its ability to make EVs accessible to a wider range of residents, and the potential for households and businesses to use the carshare as an extra car, and reduce the number of cars owned.
There are currently two EV carshare cars available in Port Townsend: a Chevy Bolt at the Chamber, and Chevy Bolt at OlyCAP 7th Haven. Each site will be getting an additional EV in the next year.
The ribbon cutting launch event will take place at the Chamber office / Visitor Information Center at 2409 Jefferson St, Port Townsend, just off of Sims Way from 12:30pm - 2:30pm. Attendees can expect a ribbon cutting ceremony, presentations from community leaders and carshare representatives, and the opportunity to ask questions/learn more about EVs and this new carshare program with ZEV Co-op.
