Fort Worden, and the myriad organizations that call it home, play a vital role in fueling tourism and local jobs. Centrum was formed in 1974 by the State of Washington in tandem with the creation of the Park to serve as the anchor tenant and help to drive tourism to Port Townsend. The organization has enjoyed steady growth for the past 48 years and built considerable strength throughout the organization prior to 2020. While the pandemic has been hard on the State’s “co-manager,” and Centrum’s landlord, the Fort Worden Lifelong Learning Center Public Development Authority, organizations including Centrum stand ready to work with City officials and other non-profit partners to reimagine a more durable future for the campus and its social enterprises.
Centrum Executive, Robert Birman, will discuss the latest developments at Centrum and expand on how the organization is evolving to meet a new future.
